Up and Coming Designer Launches Whimsical Line of Tees and
Tanks
LOS
ANGELES, CA – Monday, June 21, 2004: Talented young clothing
designer, Lindsay Stewart, today announced the launch of Maxwell Hudson,
Inc., her collection of whimsical, highly-personal pieces, adorned with
colorful sequined and beaded accents, in a dizzying array of themes
and styles. The collection will be debuted at a trunk show on Monday,
June 21 at Studio 1332, aka Pin-Up Studio, located at 1332 Main Street
in Venice, from 7-10 PM. Art by local surfer girl, Jasmine Rain will
also be featured, along with music, food and wine. All fashion and art
items will be for sale, and customers can also place orders for future
delivery.
“I love the idea of women really expressing themselves through
their clothing; of sharing something about who they are, and what they’re
interested in when they get dressed in the morning or to go out,”
said Stewart. “This line has something for everyone. Some of the
pieces are bold, humorous, maybe even a little in-your-face and obnoxious;
others are sweet, feminine and romantic. But they are all stylish and
unique, either with a pair of beat-up old jeans, or a slinky skirt and
stilettos.”
Inspired by the birth of her son, Maxwell Hudson Stewart earlier this
year, Stewart decided to launch the line of funky, eye-popping designs.
Faced with the need to work and also put her husband through law school,
and an inability to afford childcare for her son, she found a way to
combine her talents as a designer and her familial obligations, expanding
on something that had always been a hobby.
“When I was pregnant with my son Max, I tailored all of my own
clothes to fit me through every stage of the pregnancy. I was wearing
my hottest pair of leather pants, altered to accommodate my growing
belly,” Stewart added. “I was also designing the whole time,
creating taffeta draperies, duvets, crib bedding, maternity miniskirts,
dramatic dresses, even gowns. It seemed only natural that I would continue
this obsession after Max’s birth, and turn it into a collection
of wild and wonderful designs as a celebration of the young at heart.
I am a huge believer in the do-it-yourself spirit, and hope to inspire
others like myself with this line.”
Each piece is created from an on-hand collection of new or vintage embellishments
carefully selected to enhance a wide range of tees and tanks in every
cut and color. From a hot pink fitted number that boasts “Golfer”
in bright sequins, to edgy boybeaters made even edgier with glittering
skull and crossbones, motorcycles, cowboys on bucking horses, or kitschy
pink flamingos, to simpler, more feminine tops, with unfinished seams
and vibrant, iridescent flowers, each design is highly unique and made
to be a conversation piece. Stewart has vintage adornments from the
Victorian era, as well as vintage bridal appliqués, some featuring
delicate glass beads, and will take requests for custom made orders
if a customer has a particular vision or design in mind. She soon plans
to expand the line to include miniature tees for fashionable pooches,
as well as sexy beaded and sequined undies. Samples of these pieces
will be on display for a sneak peek at the trunk show. The collection
ranges from $45 to $75 retail, and will be sold at a discount at the
show.
